Abstract:

Objective

To study the effect of obesity on surgical treatment of gastric cancer patients.

Methods

Clinical data of 132 patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy from May 2018 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to body mass index(BMI)≥25.0 kg/m2,they were divided into obese group (n=45 cases)and non-obese group(n=87 cases). SPSS 20.0 software was used for data processing. Measurement data such as perioperative indicators were expressed by(

x¯
±s),and independent sample t test was performed. The statistical data of postoperative complications were compared by χ2 test. P < 0.05 indicated that the difference was statistically significant.

Results

Compared with the non-obese group, the operation duration, postoperative hospitalization days and anal exhaust time in the obese group were significantly longer, the amount of intraoperative blood loss was significantly more, the number of lymph nodes dissection was significantly less, and the incidence of postoperative complications was significantly higher than that in the non-obese group(23.7% vs. 7.8%),with statistical significance (P < 0.05. The expression levels of interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)and C-reactive protein(CRP)in obese group were significantly higher than those in non-obese group before and after operation, with statistical significance (P < 0.05.

Conclusion

Obesity may be one of the influencing factors leading to a decrease in surgical efficacy in gastric cancer patients, and it is worthy of increasing clinical attention.
