Abstract:

Laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer has been introduced in China for 30 years. The indications for surgery have expanded from early tumors to advanced tumors; The surgical site ranges from the recto-sigmoidectomy to middle and low anterior resection, and then to the ultra-low resection; The lymph node dissection ranges from D2 to D3 and then to lateral lymph node dissection; The surgical approach is from transabdominal to transanal; Digestive tract reconstruction assisted by small incisions to total laparoscopy; Surgical platforms from 2D to 3D, 4K laparoscpy to robots; Clinical research has evolved from single center to multicenter, from retrospective to prospective randomized controlled trials, and from domestic to international collaborations. It is precisely because of the hard work of a large number of experts and scholars in minimally invasive surgery and colorectal surgery in China that the rapid development of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer in China has been initiated for 30 years. The author reviews the development process of laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery in China over the past 30 years, embracing and learning from the past, drawing inspiration from the depths of history, in order to inherit and innovate in the future, and create a new glory for laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery in China in the next 30 years.
