Surgical strategies of re-operation for recurrent huge multinodular goiter

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the surgical strategies of re-operation for recurrent huge multinodular goiter (RH-MNG).

Methods

From January 2016 to December 2017, clinical data of 25 cases of re-operation for RH-MNG were analyzed retrospectively.

Results

All of 25 patients received successful surgical treatmentd with operation time of 2-3.5 hours, blood loss of 10-100 ml. There were 1 case(4%) of temporary laryngeal recurrent nerve injury and 2 case(8%) of hypoparathyroidism.

Conclusion

For the re-operation of RH-MNG , surgeon should mastered surgical skills and could use intraoperative nerve monitoring to ensure the safety.
